
Volleyball Wins at Connecticut, 3-2

STORRS, Conn. - The Seton Hall volleyball team picked up an important road victory on Friday with a 3-2 (23-25, 25-23, 25-23, 21-25, 15-8) win against Connecticut. The Pirates (9-14, 3-4) will travel to St. John's on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
Junior Meghan Matusiak (Winfield, Ill.) led the way with 19 kills and 11 digs, while sophomore Hannah Hugeback (Virginia Beach, Va.) rang up 14 kills and 20 digs. Senior Sarah Osmun (Crystal Lake, Ill.) contributed 12 kills and 19 digs, and sophomore Olivia Trudeau (Shell Beach, Calif.) totaled 44 assists and 14 digs.
Rebecca Murray paced the Huskies (2-16, 0-7) with 21 kills.
With set one tied at 16, the Huskies strung together four straight points to take command. Matusiak picked up a pair of kills as the Hall rallied back to within one, and she later put the Pirates ahead with another point that made it 22-21. UConn came up with the final run of the set, however, scoring the next three points on their way to a 25-23 win.
Seton Hall trailed late in set two before a service error from the Huskies and a kill by Osmun gave them a 23-22 lead. Murray tied it up with a point for Connecticut, but Matusiak and Trudeau finished off the set with kills to even the match at one set each.
Set three was another tight affair, and the Huskies held a 22-21 lead in the final stages before the Hall fought back. Matusiak tied it up, and Osmun stepped up with the final three kills to give the Pirates another 25-23 win and a 2-1 lead.
The Hall roared out to a 9-2 lead in set five behind the offense of DeVries and Osmun. UConn put together a 4-0 run, but the Pirates regained control and eventually put the match away with a pair of kills by DeVries and a block by Hugeback.
The Pirates held a slight edge in hitting, posting a .179 to the Huskies .178 clip. Seton Hall also outdug UConn, 81-79.
