NEWARK, N.J. - Junior Meghan Matusiak (Winfield, Ill.) rang up a career-high 26 kills to lead the Seton Hall volleyball team past NJIT on Thursday night, 3-2 (19-25, 20-25, 25-15, 25-22, 15-11). The Pirates (8-12) are back in action this Sunday when they host Villanova in the annual "Dig Pink" match at 2:00 p.m.
Sophomore Hannah Hugeback (Virginia Beach, Va.) added 16 kills and 13 digs, and junior Meghan Bonk (Hockessin, Del.) notched 11 kills. Freshman Alyssa Warren (Joliet, Ill.) came up with 22 digs, while sophomore Kalie Marshall (North Royalton, Ohio) added a career-high 12.
Janet Snell led the Highlanders (4-12) with 16 kills.
After dropping the first two sets, the Hall stormed back in set three. Leading 12-10, the Pirates put together a 6-1 run, capped off by a kill from Trudeau, to blow things open. Hugeback and Matusiak each contributed a pair of kills down the stretch to put away the 25-15 win.
NJIT took an 18-13 lead in the fourth before a Seton Hall rally. Matusiak tied the set at 20 with a kill, and she later gave the Pirates a 22-21 lead with another point. She racked up two more kills before an error by Baaba Hughes gave the Hall a 25-22 victory.
Three quick kills from Matusiak in set five helped the Pirates to an 8-3 lead and forced a timeout by the Highlanders. Leading 13-7, Seton Hall allowed a 4-0 run before Hugeback and Bonk sealed the win with kills.
