Q&A with Nicole Longobardo
1. How did you get involved in the game of golf?
I have been involved in golf since I was six years old when my dad bought me a set of kids clubs and took me to the driving range. I wasn't that bad so I kept going and the game stuck with me for the rest of my childhood and into my teenage years.
2. Why did you choose Seton Hall?
I choose Seton Hall for the Diplomacy school and the funny thing is that I am not even a Diplomacy major anymore. I stayed here because I found a home at Seton Hall. I truly found a "second family" here. The atmosphere is amazing and the people are exceptional. In short, I love being a Pirate.
3. What challenges have you had to overcome on the golf course?
I have had to overcome a lot of fear. I was afraid coming into this season that I wouldn't be good enough or that I wouldn't be able to meet the challenges of being a Division I athlete. But....when I stepped up to the ball in my first tournament and drove it past my competitors, I knew that I could do it!
4. What was your favorite experience from the fall season here at Seton Hall?
My favorite experience was not a one-time occurrence, but rather an overall reoccurring theme. I really enjoyed being a part of a team and have the experience to be a part of such a tight knit group. Seeing your team day in and day out and sharing each other's highs and lows not only about golf but about life was an amazing adventure.
5. What is the greatest lesson that you have learned from the game of golf?
One of the greatest lessons for me was letting go of control. In golf, if you hold the club too tightly or try to control the ball and were it is going, the outcome never ends up god. Just as in life- sometimes we can't control situations or things that may come our way, so, instead of trying to control what will happen by tensing up, we need to loosen our grip and give u some control.
6. What accomplishment in your golf career are you most proud of?
I was most proud of keeping a positive attitude through my rounds this fall no matter how good or bad I was playing. It is easy to get mad or frustrated and I think I did a pretty good job of keeping this emotions in check.
7. In your free time, what do you enjoy doing besides spending time at the golf course?
I love playing basketball especially with my best friend and I really enjoy reading to. I enjoy listening to music and find it to be a very relaxing activity. I also really enjoy hiking and fishing.
8. If you weren't on the golf team here, what other sports team would you most likely be interested in being on and why?
I would have to say basketball-even though I am short! I love the game and it was the sport that I enjoyed most while growing up.
9. What is your major and why did you choose to study that? Do you have educational aspirations beyond your undergraduate degree at Seton Hall?
My major is history with a minor in both Asian studies and international relations. I chose history because I truly have a passion for it and love learning about it. After graduation, I want to continue on to get my masters in security studies and a doctorate in intelligence and strategic affairs.
10. What goals do you have both on the golf course and in the classroom during your career here at Seton Hall?
As far as golf goes, I hope to keep on improving every aspect of my game and I have a goal to post a score below 90 in a collegiate tournament. As for the classroom, I hope to graduate from Seton Hall as Summa Cum Laude while earning a 4.0 in one of my semesters. I also have a goal to gain entrance into the History Honors society and to just keep doing my best.
