
Volleyball Falls in Five Sets To Marquette

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall volleyball team dropped a heated five-set match to Marquette on Sunday, falling 3-2 (23-25, 25-16, 25-17, 21-25, 15-10). The Pirates (12-16, 6-6) will host DePaul next Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
Senior Sarah Osmun (Crystal Lake, Ill.) led the Hall with 14 kills to go along with 19 digs, while junior Meghan Matusiak (Winfield, Ill.) added 12 kills. Sophomore Olivia Trudeau (Shell Beach, Calif.) paced the Pirates with a career-high 20 digs and 37 assists, while freshman Alyssa Warren (Joliet, Ill.) totaled 18 digs.
Ciara Jones and Ashley Beyer led the Golden Eagles (20-7, 10-2) with 20 kills each. Beyer was charged with six service errors for the match to go along with 10 attack errors. Julie Jeziorowski led all players with 30 digs.
Down two late in the first set, an error by Beyer and a kill from Matusiak brought the Pirates back to a tie at 20. After Marquette responded with the next three points, sophomore Hannah Hugeback (Virginia Beach, Va.) stemmed the tide with a kill, followed by another from Osmun and an error by Marquette. Matusiak put the Hall in front with a point, and Beyer committed one final error to give set one to the Pirates, 25-23.
The Golden Eagles controlled the next two sets before Seton Hall rallied in the fourth. Trailing 20-18, Hugeback and Matusiak capped off a 3-0 run that gave the Pirates a one-point lead. Marquette evened it up one last time before kills Hugeback and Matusiak again went back-to-back with points, and a pair of errors by the Golden Eagles yielded a 25-21 win for the Pirates.
Marquette trailed 6-4 in the fifth before going on an 8-1 run that made it 12-7. The Pirates later fought off two match points before ultimately succumbing by a 15-10 score.
