SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Seton Hall University has announced that women's golf will be added to its collection of intercollegiate athletics programs and will begin competition in the fall of 2010.
Seton Hall administration is currently assembling a coaching staff and an intercollegiate squad that will begin play in fall and vy for a conference title in the spring of 2011. The new program will become the eighth to compete for the Women's BIG EAST Conference Championship joining current schools Cincinnati, Georgetown, Louisville, Notre Dame, Rutgers, St. John's and USF.
The Seton Hall men's golf team has finished in third place of 12 programs each of the last two seasons and the Pirates are hoping that the momentum generated by the men's program will spill over into the new women's program.
"We are very excited to add a women's team to our flourishing golf program here at Seton Hall," said Men's Golf Coach Clay White. "We've already begun the recruiting process and are looking forward to bringing in interested student-athletes to compete as charter members of this new program. It is a wonderful opportunity for young women interested in golf to earn a good education and compete on a high level."
Seton Hall's Senior Associate Director of Athletics/SWA Ginger Fulton is leading the national search for a women's golf coach. A former professional golfer, Fulton established the women's golf team at Xavier and served as head coach from 1992 to 1995. She has enjoyed success competitively on both the amateur and professional levels. Fulton and White have already begun recruiting prospective student-athletes.
