SARA DOELL NAMED WOMEN'S GOLF HEAD COACH

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Sara Doell has been named the first head coach of Seton Hall's new women's golf program, it was announced Friday by Ginger Fulton, senior associate athletics director/SWA.
Doell comes to Seton Hall with a wealth of golf knowledge having spent the last four and a half years as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Penn State.
"We are very pleased to add a head coach of Sara's experience and enthusiasm to the Seton Hall family," Fulton said. "We look forward to watching her foster this program from the ground up and mold it into a contender. There is no question that she is the right person at the right time to lead this new venture."
Doell will begin immediately as her Pirates will compete for the first time this fall.
"I am very excited to have this opportunity to start the women's golf program at Seton Hall University," Doell said. "With the support of the Seton Hall Athletic Department and the guidance and experience of SWA, Ginger Fulton, I am confident that we will build a strong program over the next few seasons. I want to thank Ginger Fulton, Joe Quinlan and the Seton Hall search committee for granting me this opportunity to build a successful and competitive team in the BIG EAST Conference."
Prior to her work as an assistant coach with the Nittany Lions, Doell spent more than four years as an assistant golf professional at a country club in North Carolina.
In 2006, Doell was instrumental in helping to raise funds for Project Team Build, a major initiative by the National Golf Coaches' Association to sponsor the building of a house through Habitat for Humanity in the New Orleans area. The initiative, which was spearheaded by head coach Denise St. Pierre, was a complete success as Doell played a huge role in coordinating the effort along with St. Pierre.
Doell graduated from Penn State University in 2000 with a degree in Media Studies, focusing on the portrayals of women in sports media. On scholarship from 1996-2000, Doell left a lasting impression on the Nittany Lion golf program.
Not only does Doell currently hold the Penn State record for the lowest 54-hole score (215) she was team captain for the Lions from 1999-2000. That same year Doell won the Women's Golf Academic and Athletic Achievement award, the Mary Kennedy-Zierke award and the Penn State Spiritus Lionus Academic Leadership Award. The Kennedy-Zierke award is given annually to the student-athlete who provides outstanding leadership and dedication as a varsity golfer.
In 1998, she was the New York State Amateur Champion. Doell also became the Women's Rochester District Amateur Champion in both 1997 and 2000.
From 2001-2006, Doell was the Assistant Golf Professional at the Ballantyne Country Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. She is a Class A Member and a Class A Member Advisor for the LPGA.
