Joe DiRocco, Baseball

Junior pitcher Joe DiRocco was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after tossing a complete game shutout against West Virginia on Friday. The right-hander struck out six batters while only allowing three hits and one walk to earn the Pirates first conference win of the season and his team-leading fourth victory.  He did not allow a runner past second base, and pitched five perfect innings, including the ninth inning which began with a strikeout of BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year Jedd Gyorko.  DiRocco held Gyorko to no hits in four at-bats with two groundouts, and infield line-out, and a strikeout.
