SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Seton Hall head volleyball coach Kris Zeiter has announced the addition of Simona Sekulova (Auckland, New Zealand) to the Pirates' roster for the 2010 season.
Sekulova, a 6'0" outside hitter, has been one of the top players in New Zealand over the past several years. A member of the Under-17, 18 and 19 teams at varying points, she led her country to the Asian Youth Volleyball Championship in 2010. In 2009, Sekulova represented Auckland in the Volleyball New Zealand U-19 Championship and helped the team to a first place finish.
Since 2007, Sekulova has played for the Waitakere Women's Volleyball Club, leading the squad to a second place finish in her first year at the national club championship. Also a member of the team at her secondary school, Rutherford College, she experienced a pair of zone championships in New Zealand.
Originally from Macedonia, Sekulova moved to New Zealand in 2006.
"I am very excited to have Simona join us at Seton Hall," said Zeiter. "I think she can provide an immediate boost to the team with her offensive abilities and her versatility on the court. Simona has a good arm and is very athletic, with the potential to develop into a very good outside hitter in the BIG EAST Conference."
The Pirates will kick off the 2010 season on August 27 at the William & Mary Tournament.
