SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Northeastern held on to beat the Seton Hall volleyball team, 3-1 (25-16, 25-13, 16-25, 25-19) to take second place in the Seton Hall Invitational. The Huskies (10-5) finished with two wins in the tournament, falling only to the champion, Western Michigan.
Senior Sarah Osmun (Crystal Lake, Ill.) was named to the All-Tournament for the Pirates (4-10). She posted 11 kills against the Huskies (10-5).
Junior Meghan Matusiak (Winfield, Ill.) led the Hall with 15 kills and 14 digs. Freshman Alyssa Warren (Joliet, Ill.) had a game-high 15 digs.
Down 2-0, the Pirates rallied in the third set. Kills by sophomore Hannah Hugeback (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Matusiak made it 5-2, and it was 11-4 following points from Osmun and Matusiak and an attack error by Janelle Tucker. Consecutive kills by Osmun made it 20-10, and she later closed out the set with her eighth kill of the frame to keep the Hall alive.
An ace from Hugeback made it 3-0 in favor of the Pirates to start set four. After a Matusiak kill made it 7-3, the Huskies put together an 8-1 run to surge in front by two. Seton Hall responded with the next three points, and would later lead 16-14 on a service error by Nichole Kurz. Northeastern would respond once and for all, however, running off five unanswered on its way to the set and match victory.
Kelly Bacon paced the Huskies with 12 kills, while Jessica LaScola had 14 digs.
