SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall women's golf program has announced the addition of two players for the 2012-13 academic year. Megan Tenhundfeld (Loveland, Ohio) and Karlie Zabrosky (Erie, Pa.) have signed national letters of intent and will attend and compete for the University beginning in fall 2012.
"I am very excited about the direction of our program," said head coach Sara Doell. "This past fall, the team took great strides towards becoming a very competitive team within the BIG EAST. In a short amount of time, we've also developed a high standard of academics within the program. With the addition of Megan and Karlie, we continue on the correct path both on the course and in the classroom."
Tenhundfeld, who currently attends Ursuline Academy of Cincinnati, has four top-10 finishes in American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) and Plantations Junior Golf Tour (PJGT) events during the 2011 season. Her strong play includes a win at the AJGA Preseason Junior at White Hawk in Crown Point, Ind. Trailing by two strokes following a first round score of 81, Tenhundfeld carded a 77 in inclement weather to take home the trophy. In 2010, Tenhundfeld was named Girls Greater Cincinnati League (GGCL) Division I Player of the Year and was a First Team GGCL, First Team All-Southwest Ohio and Second Team All-Ohio selection.
"Megan had shown some interest in Seton Hall last year, and as we were developing in the recruiting process, she won an AJGA event," Doell said. "I was excited to have already been on her radar as a school that she was interested in competing for. She has a very athletic swing and has strong course management that has led to some recent success on the junior circuit. I know that she has not even sniffed her potential and I look forward to guiding her to more success in her collegiate career."
Karlie Zabrosky will join Seton Hall following a stellar career at McDowell High School. Zabrosky is a standout in Pennsylvania who has qualified for the High School State Championships the last three years, finishing 16th, fifth and sixth in those respectively. She was also recently named District 10 Golfer of the Year for the third consecutive year. In all, she has recorded six wins in high school, state, and regional events. Zabrosky's exploits also include the women's course record (69) at Black Brook Country Club in Mentor, Ohio, set during a North Coast Junior Tour event. Zabrosky has also been a presence in PGA Calloway Series events, finishing tied for second (70-78-74) with current Seton Hall freshman McKenzie Cutter (Waldorf, Md.) at an event hosted by Penn State in July. The following week, she placed third (80-74-74) at the PGA Calloway Series event in Westbrook, Ohio.
"I feel very fortunate to have found Karlie this past summer," said Doell. "I was at the PGA Callaway event in State College watching McKenzie compete and Karlie was paired with her. Right away, I was very impressed with Karlie's swing, the length she hit the ball and her calm and focused nature on the golf course. Her solid golf game and her positive attitude are going to be strong contributors to her future success as a Pirate."
