SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall women’s golf team recently announced its schedule for spring 2012. Coming off an impressive fall season that concluded with five consecutive top-10 team finishes and sophomore Hannah Basalone (Brea, Calif.) taking the first individual title in program history, the team looks to continue to show strong growth in year two of existence.
The Pirates’ spring slate will include five tournaments, three of which will be played in the state of Florida. SHU will tee-off the spring season at the Siena invitational which will take place in Port St. Lucie, Fla. on March 16-17. The Hall will next compete at the University of Cincinnati’s Spring Invitational on March 23-25 in Crystal River, Fla. The spring schedule concludes with a trip to the BIG EAST Championship on April 22-24 at the Reunion Resort and Golf Club in Orlando, Fla.
“The opportunity to start our competitive spring season on the back end of Spring break is a great advantage to us,” Head coach Sara Doell said. “It will give us the chance to travel to Florida, practice and play in the beginning of the week to prepare us for Siena’s event hosted at PGA Village at the end of the week. Next up is Cincinnati’s event which has traditionally boasted a strong field. Last year, we had our best performance of the season at this tournament and I know that the girls will be very confident. We round out the year at the BIG EAST Championships in Orlando, Fla. This is a site change from the past and presents a new challenge, but we are excited to compete in our second conference championship.” Sandwiched in between the Pirates’ trips to Florida will be a pair of appearances in tournaments hosted respectively by Georgetown and Columbia University. The Hoya Invitational will take place on April 2-3 at The Members Club at Four Streams in Beallsville, Md. The most local appearance of the season for the Pirates will be at the Spook Rock Golf Course in Suffern, N.Y. for the Roar-EE Invitational hosted by Columbia on April 13-14. “As a team, we look to take the success and confidence we developed from a strong fall performance into the spring,” said Doell.
