PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Seton Hall senior Herb Pope (Aliquippa, Pa.) was named to the BIG EAST's Weekly Honor Roll on Monday for a second straight week.
It's the third straight week to open the season that Pope has been recognized by the conference. On Nov. 21, he was named BIG EAST Player of the Week.
Seton Hall played just one game last week, but Pope's performance was good enough to earn him recognition. The 6-foot-8 power forward recorded game-highs of 23 points and 12 rebounds in the Pirates' 81-59 victory over Auburn in the BIG EAST/SEC Challenge on Friday. His double-double gives him 25 for his career, the most among all active BIG EAST players.
Pope currently leads the BIG EAST with 20.9 points per game and is tied for the conference lead with 11.7 rebounds per game.
Other weekly honors include: Georgetown's Hollis Thompson being named BIG EAST Player of the Week and Providence's LaDontae Henton earning BIG EAST Rookie of the Week recognition. Joining Pope on the Honor Roll are Marquette's Darius Johnson-Odom, Pittsburgh's Ashton Gibbs, Providence's Gerard Coleman and West Virginia's Kevin Jones.
Pope and the rest of the Pirates will return to action tomorrow when they host NJIT at the Prudential Center. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling 973-275-HALL.
