CORAL SPRINGS, FLA. - Seton Hall women's golfers Hannah Basalone (Brea, Calif.) and Nicole Longobardo (Upland, Calif.) were named to the All-American Scholar Division I Team. The announcement was made by the National Golf Coaches Association.
A total of 566 women's collegiate golfers were recognized with the prestigious honor. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50.
"I am thrilled that both Hannah and Nicole earned a spot on the NGCA All-Scholar team," said head coach Sara Doell. "Furthermore, I couldn't be happier for the team as a whole as we earned a cumulative team GPA of 3.47 for the 2010-11 school year."
Basalone was the Pirates' top golfer in their inaugural season. Competing in every tournament for Seton Hall, she posted a team-best 78.88 stroke average. She was the top Pirates' performer in seven of the nine tournaments during the 2010-11 academic year, and finished second on the team in the other two events. Basalone's top performance came at the Spider Invitational, which concluded the fall season. She fired a 12-over-par, 79-75-74-228 to place fifth among all individual golfers. To complete a historic first season for Seton Hall she led the Pirates at their first-ever BIG EAST Championship with a 28-over-par, 92-75-77-244, placing 26th overall.
"As a freshman, Hannah has shown an incredible work ethic both in the classroom and on the golf course," Doell said. "She led this team both on and off the course all year long."
Longobardo started seven of Seton Hall's nine tournaments, despite being a walk-on to begin the season. The rising senior earned a starting spot and improved throughout the year while maintaining a sparkling academic ledger. Longobardo's junior campaign culminated with a starting role on Seton Hall's first-ever participating team in the Women's Golf BIG EAST Championship.
"Nicole earned a spot in the line-up as a walk-on upperclassman and immediately became a great mentor to our freshman class," Doell said. "She works hard in the classroom, on the golf course and in the gym."
Seton Hall will tee off the 2011 fall season at the Bucknell Invitational in Lewisburg, Pa., Sept. 10-11.
