Thanks to the strong support of donors contributing to the Women's Golf Fundraising Project, the Pirates had spacious, new lockers installed in time for the start of the women's golf 2011 fall season.
Each impressive locker has storage for a golf bag, three shelves, cubbies for golf shoes, a bar to hang clothing and a personalized name plate.
The new lockers are a part of a newly renovated and expanded golf facility which includes an undulated putting and chipping green, hitting station and several mirrors to study one's form.
In only its second year of existence, the women's golf team, led by head coach Sara Doell, is focused on providing the right coaching, tools and environment to build this young program into a future BIG EAST powerhouse.
"I am thrilled to see the lockers installed in our indoor golf facility," Doell said. "When women's golf was added last year, the athletics department and University was very supportive in updating the facility and creating a storage area for all of the players' clubs and golf items to accommodate both the men's and women's teams. I knew that adding lockers to that storage area would be the next important step so that all players have a safe place to store their clubs and golf equipment."
The lockers were made possible with over $20,000 raised in sponsorships. Doell ran a half marathon in the spring and generated additional sponsors for her running efforts.
"Once again, I want to thank all of the individuals and families that donated to our fundraising project for these lockers," Doell said. "The support that we received was tremendous and the lockers provide us with a big advantage moving forward."
The women's golf program will begin the 2011 fall season at the Bucknell Invitational, Sept. 10-11, in Lewisburg, Pa.
