HUNTINGTON VALLEY, PA. - The Seton Hall men's golf team will continue its fall season with the 2012 Big 5 Invitational at Philmont Country Club, Oct. 13-14.
Nineteen teams will compete in the two-round, two-day event on the par-70, 6,267-yard golf course. In addition to the Pirates, the tournament will feature competitors from Binghamton, Brown, Columbia, Connecticut, Cornell, Dartmouth, Drexel, Fordham, Hartford, La Salle, Navy, Pennsylvania, Princeton, Sacred Heart, Saint Joseph's, Temple, Villanova and Yale.
Dartmouth won last year's Big 5 Invitational with a 578 score for the two-day event. Sebastian Backlund of Francis Marion was the individual medalist with a 2-under-par, 138. Seton Hall tied for eighth among a field of 22 teams with a 36-over-par, 304-292-596, finishing 18 strokes behind Dartmouth. Troy Spencer and Brandon Park tied for the team lead with 9-over-par, 148 scores. They tied for 25th among 114 golfers.
Seton Hall is no stranger to this tournament as this weekend will be the fifth time participating in the annual event in the last six years. The Pirates finished as high as second place in 2008.
The Pirates are coming off a ninth place finish at the 2012 Binghamton University Fall Invitational last weekend. Freshman Cory Wilson (Newton, N.J.) fired an even-par, 74-70-144, to tie for second place among 79 golfers. The impressive performance was a career-best for Wilson playing in only his fourth collegiate tournament.
Sophomore Derrick Kim (New City, N.Y.) currently leads the Pirates this fall with a 75.10 scoring average.
