BETHLEHEM, PA. - Junior Christina Cantú (Houston, Texas) fired a 1-over-par, 73, to lead the Seton Hall women's golf team to a second place standing following round one of the 2012 Lehigh University Invitational.
Last season, Seton Hall finished in second place at this event, four strokes behind the tournament champion, Brown. After 18 holes, the Pirates find themselves in the same position, second place, four strokes behind the leader. Collectively, Seton Hall fired a first round 17-over-par, 305, in round one. In-state BIG EAST rival Rutgers leads the field.
Two other BIG EAST participants trail the Pirates. St. John's is currently in fourth, three strokes behind Seton Hall, while Georgetown is in seventh, 13 strokes behind.
Cantú is currently in second place among a field of 45 golfers and trails the individual leader, Kortnie Maxoutopouli of Rutgers by only one stroke. The junior has finished second in two tournaments already this season, but is still chasing her first career individual title.
Sophomore Ali Kruse (Overland Park, Kan.) is currently in 10th place following her first round 4-over-par, 76.
Hannah Basalone (Brea, Calif.) and Erin McClure (Tucson, Ariz.) are tied for 13th place overall after a pair of 5-over-par, 78's.
Freshman Megan Tenhundfeld (Loveland, Ohio) rounded out the Pirates scoring in the first round with a 12-over-par, 84.
Seton Hall, which is chasing its fifth top-five finish in five tournaments this fall, will wrap up play at the Lehigh University Invitational on Sunday and complete the fall season.
