CHATHAM, N.J. - Freshman Cory Wilson (Newton, N.J.) fired a 3-over-par, 74, in round one of the 2012 Barnabas Health Intercollegiate to lead the Seton Hall men's golf team to a ninth place standing with 18 holes to go.
Collectively, the Pirates shot a 28-over-par, 312, in round one and currently trail LIU, the team leader, by 21 strokes.
The skies were fair and the sun was shining with temperatures in the mid-60s for the third annual Barnabas Health Intercollegiate, hosted by Seton Hall, but the winds created some havoc with the golfers in round one.
Wilson is tied for ninth among 60 golfers and trails LIU's Obediah Ayton and Temple's Matthew Crescenzo, who both fired an even-par, 71, in round one.
Derrick Kim (New City, N.Y.) also had a good afternoon. The sophomore is currently two strokes behind Wilson with a 5-over-par, 76. Kim is tied for 20th place overall.
David Cha (Carrollton, Texas) and Marc Kunesch (Newton, N.J.) are tied for 38th place overall following their first round 81's.
Junior Gary Dunne (Wicklow, Ireland), who missed the last two tournaments with tendinitis, made his return to the Pirates' lineup and shot an 11-over-par, 82.
Freshman Kevin Sanislo (Whippany, N.J.) took the course as an individual and fired a 13-over-par, 84.
The 2012 Barnabas Health Intercollegiate will conclude with 18 final holes on Monday. Complete results will be available at SHU.pirates.com.
