PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Seton Hall golfers Troy Spencer (High Point, N.C.) and Gary Dunne (Wicklow, Ireland) were named to the 2012 All-BIG EAST Team; it was announced Thursday by the conference office.
This is the first time that Seton Hall has brandished two individuals on the All-BIG EAST Team. Spencer and Dunne are two of only 14 individuals to receive the recognition.
A senior, Spencer closes out one of the finest golf careers in Seton Hall history. In 2011-12, he led the Pirates in fall stroke average and his 73.38 stroke average for the year also led the team. Recently named Seton Hall's Student Most Valuable Pirate, Spencer tallied five top-10 finishes this year including a spectacular 5-under-par, 69-69-73-211 to tie for third at the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate. A starter in every tournament Seton Hall has participated in since the fall of 2008, he tied Seton Hall's record for most tournaments and holds the record for most rounds.
Dunne improved dramatically in his sophomore season. The Irishman had a 74.14 stroke average for the spring and saved his career-best performance for the 2012 BIG EAST Championship. Dunne tallied his first career sub-par tournament with a 1-under-par, 72-74-69-215, at the conference's marquee event and tied for seventh among 60 individual golfers.
