
Basalone Advances in WAPL

NESHANIC STATION, N.J. – Seton Hall women’s golfer Hannah Basalone (Brea, Calif.) fired a 2-under-par, 70, in the second round of the 2012 U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship (WAPL) and qualified for the match play rounds of the tournament beginning today.
Basalone tied for 43rd place among 156 golfers with a 3-over-par, 77-70-147, over the two rounds of stroke play. The cut line for match play was at 5-over-par, 149.
Lisa McClosey of Houston, Texas took medalist honors with a 7-under-par, 137, over the 36 holes.
“Hannah showed incredible poise on Monday,” said Head Coach Sara Doell. “It is a remarkable achievement for her to make the cut in this prestigious national tournament. She really elevated her game in the second round, which could have been even better than the final result. Hopefully, she can keep this momentum going into match play.”
First-round matches will be contested on Wednesday, followed by the second and third rounds of matches on Thursday at Neshanic Valley Golf Course in Neshanic Station, N.J. The quarterfinals and semifinals will be played on Friday, and the championship concludes with a 36-hole final on Saturday.
Basalone will square off against Cindy Ha of Demarest, N.J. in round one. Proving she is no laughing matter, Ha tied for 13th in stroke play with a 1-under-par, 68-75-143. The ladies will tee off at 11:54 am.
Basalone qualified for the tournament at Stone Creek Golf Club in Oregon. She was the medalist for the qualifier, leading the field with a 72.
