SHU Wins Two Team Excellence Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Seton Hall softball and women's volleyball programs were named recipients of a 2011-12 BIG EAST Team Academic Excellence Award, recognizing the highest collective grade-point averages in each conference sport.
The winners were chosen based on the 2011-12 grade-point average of each student-athlete who appeared on an institution's roster as of the last contest of the championship segment in each conference-sponsored sport.
Twelve different BIG EAST schools had at least one team honored as DePaul finished with a conference-best five teams recognized. Notre Dame and Villanova had three teams recognized, while Georgetown, Providence, Seton Hall and St. John's had two each. Cincinnati, Louisville, Marquette, Rutgers and West Virginia were represented by one team each.
2011-12 was a banner year for Seton Hall student-athletes in the classroom, as the cumulative GPA for all student-athletes reached a new high for the second consecutive semester last spring.
