This summer, the Houston, Texas, native has competed in three tournaments in the Lone Star state, picking up two wins in the process.
Cantú started out the summer by finishing third at the Texas A&M Traditions Collegiate Championship on May 29-30, and won the Eddie Burke, Sr. Young Houstonian on July 23-25, and the TPC San Antonio - PGA Tour Series Championship on July 30-31.
"Christina has had a solid summer with some strong finishes at some significant tournaments," head Seton Hall women's golf coach Sara Doell said. "She won the Eddie Burke for the second year in a row- an event that I now she really likes competing in as it is a strong local field for her."
At the Texas A&M Traditions tournament in May, Cantú finished 10 strokes off the lead with a three-round tally of 241 (86-77-78). Her second-round score of 77 tied for lowest individual round of the tournament and her final round 78 ranked second in the field.
Cantú started strong at the Young Houstonian last month, taking an eight-stroke lead after the first round where she shot a tournament-best five-under par 67. She completed the tournament as the only player in the field under par, finishing with a one-under 215 (67-75-73), which was 11 strokes clear of the field.
The following week in San Antonio, Cantú made a comeback after shooting an opening-round 80. Five strokes off the lead through the first round, she followed that up with back-to-back rounds of 74 to come away with a two-stroke win over Houston Baptist's Katie Paxton, finishing with a 12-over score of 228 (80-74-74).
Cantú competed in all 10 tournaments for Seton Hall last year and led the Pirates with a 77.92 stroke average during the spring season. She posted three top-10 finishes on the year and wrapped up the season with a 13th-place finish at the 2012 BIG EAST Championship.
"After recovering from injury, her performance was strong in her sophomore year," Doell said. "I believe that, with another year of experience, Christina will be a integral part of our success this upcoming school year."
The Seton Hall women's golf team will begin the 2012-13 season at the Bucknell University Lady Bison Fall Classic on Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 8-9, in Lewisburg, Pa.
