
MGolf Ties for 11th at Hartford

SOUTH KENT, CONN. - The Seton Hall men's golf team completed play at the 2012 Hartford Hawk Invitational on Tuesday with an 11th place tie. Sophomore Derrick Kim (New City, N.Y.) led the Pirates at 12-over-par for the tournament.
The Pirates finished 50 strokes behind the team champion and host, Hartford, which won the tournament by 20 strokes over second place teams, Boston College and Sacred Heart. For the three-round event, Seton Hall was 61-over-par with a 309-301-315-925.
Connecticut and Rutgers were the Pirates lone BIG EAST competition. Both finished slightly better at 35-over-par and 44-over-par respectively.
After shaving eight strokes off its first round score with a 301 in round two, Seton Hall struggled mightily in round three. The Pirates shot a 27-over-par, 315, in the final round, which had them drop from a ninth place tie to an 11th place tie.
Kim led the Pirates with a 12-over-par, 77-74-77-228, and tied for 27th place among 89 individual golfers.
After matching Kim in both of the first two rounds, freshman Cory Wilson (Newton, N.J.) shot a disappointing 10-over-par, 82, in round three. Wilson finished in a tie for 45th place with a 17-over-par, 77-74-82-233.
David Cha (Carrollton, Texas) was the third-best Pirate performer this week. The freshman finished at 18-over-par with a 76-78-80-234, one stroke behind Wilson.
Junior Marc Kunesch (Newton, N.J.) was two strokes behind Cha, finishing with a 20-over-par, 79-81-76-236. His third-round 76 was the best on the team.
Rounding out the Pirates scoring was junior Gary Dunne (Wicklow, Ireland) who finished at 29-over-par with an 80-75-90-245.
The Seton Hall men's golf team will return to the links in two weeks when they take on the Binghamton University Invitational in Apalachin, New York.
