NEW YORK, N.Y. - Junior Stacey Manthorpe (Merion Station, Pa.) was named to the BIG EAST Women's Volleyball Weekly Honor Roll on Monday.
Stacey Manthorpe was instrumental in leading Seton Hall to a perfect 3-0 record last week including crucial BIG EAST wins at Georgetown and Villanova. The Pirates began the week with a three-set sweep at LIU-Brooklyn. The victory snapped the Blackbirds' 19-match home win streak. Because of the Pirates' dominance, Manthorpe played sparingly. However, in Seton Hall's two weekend victories, Manthorpe was the key figure in the Pirates' offense. The junior recorded a double-double with a team-high 17 kills to go with 15 digs and a season-high seven blocks in a five-set victory at Georgetown on Friday. The win avenged a 3-0 sweep by Georgetown just six days earlier at Seton Hall. On Saturday, Manthorpe recorded another double-double, matching her career-high with 18 kills and 15 digs. She also had an impressive .359 attack percentage.
The suddenly streaking Pirates have now won five of their last six matches, and after playing a challenging early-season schedule, have reached the .500 mark for the first time this season (10-10).
Other honorees this week include Creighton's Kelli Browning being named BIG EAST Player of the Week and Marquette's Nele Barber being named Rookie of the Week. Those joining Manthorpe on the honor roll include Creighton's Jess Bird, DePaul's Natalie Rizzo, St. John's Karin Palgutova and Villanova's Lauren Carpenter.
Manthorpe and the rest of the Pirates will return to action on Tuesday when they host Stony Brook. Match time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
