If you often wonder what some of your favorite athletes from years past are up to, be sure to visit SHUpirates.com to see if that player is on our “Where Are They Now?” list. We will feature athletes from all of our sports programs throughout the year.
This week we are catching up with former men's golfer Jamie Bosworth, who placed 10th individually for The Hall at the conference championship as part of the 1992 BIG EAST Championship Golf Team. A father, husband and entrepreneur, Bosworth remains very much connected to the game that featured so prominently during his days at SHU.
Following a highly successful stint as the Executive Vice President at Callaway Golf, he founded the Back9Network, a golf-centric digital media property he currently heads as the Chief Executive Officer. Always a devoted Pirate, he also remains a loyal fan and supporter of Seton Hall Athletics and the Pirate Blue Athletic Fund.
Recently, Bosworth took some time to answer a few questions for SHUPirates.com in our 12th installment of the “Where Are They Now?" series.
Q: Where do you live now and what are you up to these days?
Bosworth: After moving from Pebble Beach and Carlsbad, I currently live in Simsbury, Connecticut with my wife Jennifer (former Fox CT weekend news anchor) and two sons, James and Jack (both of whom are the biggest Pirate fans in UConn territory). I am the Chairman and CEO of the Back9Network, a lifestyle golf network that launched digitally earlier this year.
Q: What is your favorite memory as a Pirate?
Bosworth: I had many great memories as a student-athlete at Seton Hall, but my favorite golf one was being a member of the 1992 BIG EAST Championship team. We had come in last place every year prior, and it was fun to stick it to our friends at Boston College and Georgetown.
I also have great memories of cheering on the men's basketball team during our two BIG EAST Tournament Championships in the Garden. A special thanks to the BIG EAST for having the vision to serve beer at MSG, for those of us old enough to drink.
Q: Do you still keep in touch with any of your former teammates and if so, who?
Bosworth: Absolutely. Michael Montifia and Dave Kent both are still in the golf business. But the best lifelong friendship I've made because of Seton Hall and my time as a student-athlete is with my former coach, Allan Small.
Q: Do you still follow the Pirates and what are your thoughts on the program today?
Bosworth: Very much so. I'm extremely excited about the Pirates future across the board. I follow the men’s and women's golf teams and the men's basketball team very closely. I am extremely impressed with our men's basketball coach Kevin Willard and his staff. I hope we have them for years to come. His players compete very hard for him and they are gentlemen off the court. I am proud to be associated with the program and I am proud to be a former student-athlete.
Q: I notice you are a Pirate Blue member, thank you for your support. Why do you support Pirate Blue and why do you think it's important to give back?
I support Pirate Blue today because if it wasn't for Seton Hall I wouldn't be where I am today. The lessons that I learned about hard work, dedication, and honesty have treated me very well up to this point in my career and in my life. Robin Cunningham and her staff in academic advising just about pulled me across the finish line to graduation, and for that I will always be grateful.
Check back soon to see if your favorite former Pirate will be the subject of our next edition of “Where Are They Now?"
