Coming off a historic 2012-13 academic year, members of the Seton Hall women’s golf team have continued their strong play in a number of summer tournaments. Four Pirates have been active in Collegiate Players Tour events. In early June, Megan Tenhundfeld (Loveland, Ohio) and Karlie Zabrosky (Erie, Pa.) took on the Rolling Hills Collegiate Open at Rolling Hills Country Club in McMurry, Pennsylvania. Tenhundfeld placed second with a 23-over-par, 79-81-79-239, while Zabrosky took third with a 25-over-par, 83-79-79-241. Ali Kruse (Overland Park, Kan.) and Hannah Basalone (Brea, Calif.) participated in the State Farm Collegiate Open in Norco, California, June 10-12. Kruse placed third with a 7-over-par, 73-71-79-223, while Basalone took fifth with a 16-over-par, 72-82-78-232. Kruse, Tenhundfeld and Zabrosky all also competed in the competitive Women’s Western Golf Am at Dayton Country Club, June 17th through June 22. The participants play 36 holes of stroke play and then are seeded into flights for match play brackets. Tenhundfeld shot an 82-75-157 and qualified for the First Flight. The rising sophomore defeated her first round opponent in 19 holes and advanced to the Final Four with a 4 & 3 quarterfinal win. In the semifinals, she fell to the eventual winner of the flight, Nikolette Schroeder, 3 & 2. Kruse and Zabrosky shot an identical, 75-78-153, in the stroke play rounds to qualify for the Championship Flight of the tournament. Kruse drew a tough-luck first round assignment and lost, to the eventual winner of the tournament, Ashlan Ramsay, 5 & 4. Zabrosky defeated her first round opponent, 3 & 2, and advanced to the third round with a 2 up victory in round two. The rising sophomore fell in round three, 6 & 4. “I’m very pleased to see the team playing hard this summer,” said Head Coach Sara Doell. “The more we work in the offseason, the better we’ll be prepared for the fall. Without losing anyone to graduation, we have an excellent opportunity to take another large step forward this year.”
