CORAL SPRINGS, FLA. – Seton Hall women’s golfers Hannah Basalone (Brea, Calif.), Ali Kruse (Overland Park, Kan.) and Erin McClure (Tucson, Ariz.) were named to the 2012-13 Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar Team on Tuesday. A total of 644 women’s collegiate golfers were recognized across Divisions I, II and III. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA to qualify is 3.50. Last month, Basalone was the women’s golf recipient of the prestigious BIG EAST Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award. A two-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star, in 2011 she became the first women’s golfer in school history to win an individual title, and at year’s end, was the first player in the brief history of the program to be named an All-BIG EAST performer. In 2012-13, Basalone carded one top-five and two top-10 finishes, and shot a 71 on the first day at the conference championship, matching the lowest round score on the team for the tournament. Kruse was arguably the Pirates’ most consistent performer last year. The sophomore started in all nine tournaments and led the team with six top-10 finishes and two top-five performances. Kruse sported a team-low 75.17 stroke average during the fall season, which was punctuated by her first individual title, a victory at the St. John’s Intercollegiate. A BIG EAST Academic All-Star, Kruse’s 2-under-par, 70, in the second round of the Yale Intercollegiate is the lowest single-round score in program history. McClure also took a major step forward in her second year as a Pirate golfer. The Tucson native competed in eight of nine tournaments, logged one top-10 finish and posted a career-best 78.10 scoring average during the spring season. McClure’s even-par, 72, in the second round of the Brown Bear Invitational, was a career-best round, and lifted her to a seventh place individual finish in the tournament. Basalone, Kruse, McClure and the rest of the Pirates will be back in action when the squad kicks off its fall campaign at the Lady Bison Fall Classic. Play is scheduled to take place from Sept. 7-8 at the Bucknell Golf Club in Lewisburg, Pa.
