NEW YORK, N.Y. - Junior Sal Annunziata (Bronx, N.Y.) was named BIG EAST Baseball Player of the Week on Monday. Teammate Josh Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J.) was added to the conference's Weekly Honor Roll.
Annunziata spearheaded a Seton Hall offense that out-scored Richmond, 30-6, in a three-game sweep last weekend. The All-Conference first baseman batted .538 in the series with a team-best six RBIs, 12 total bases, five doubles and a .923 slugging percentage. On Saturday, Annunziata went 3-for-5 with a run scored, an RBI and a double. On Sunday alone, he recorded four doubles. In the first game of the double-header, he had a monster game, going 3-for-4 with three doubles, three RBIs and four runs scored. In game two, Annunziata got the offense started with a two-RBI double in the first inning and the Pirates never trailed. This is the second time he has been honored with a BIG EAST weekly award. On May 13, 2013, he was named to the Honor Roll.
Proving he is every bit the ace his Friday starter designation indicates, Prevost turned in his career-best start at Richmond on Saturday. The 6-foot-8 right-hander threw his first career complete game in Seton Hall's 8-2 series-opening victory. Prevost made just one significant error, allowing a fourth inning two-run home run which accounted for all of the Spiders' scoring. After the blast however, he allowed only three Richmond batters to reach base for the remainder of the game. Prevost also struck out a career-high eight batters and walked just one. It's the second BIG EAST honor in as many weeks to begin the season for Prevost. Last week, he was named Pitcher of the Week.
Xavier's Adam Hall was named Pitcher of the Week. Those joining Prevost on the Honor Roll include: Georgetown's Steve Anderson, Creighton's Jake Peter, Butler's Marcos Calderon and Villanova's Max Beermann.
Weather and field conditions permitting, the Pirates will return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 26 for a mid-week contest at Owen T. Carroll Field with Lehigh. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
