NEW YORK, N.Y. - Senior Josh Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J.) was named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season on Monday. Junior D.J. Ruhlman (Belle Mead, N.J.) earned Weekly Honor Roll status for the second time.
The duo was a key component to Seton Hall's perfect 4-0 record last week. The 22nd-ranked Pirates have won four straight games and 11 of their last 12 games.
Prevost earns BIG EAST honors for a fifth straight week to begin the season. It's the third time he's received Pitcher of the Week honors. On Friday vs. Manhattan, Prevost turned in arguably the most dominant performance of his career. The 6-foot-8 right-hander threw his first career complete-game shutout while scattering just four hits to improve to a perfect 5-0 on the young season. Prevost struck out six batters and walked none. To date, he leads the BIG EAST in wins, innings pitched and strikeouts.
Ruhlman batted a team-best .500 in four games last week. The starting shortstop collected three hits, including his second home run of the season on Monday at James Madison. On Saturday against Manhattan, he went 2-for-5 and drove in two of Seton Hall's three runs in a 3-2 victory. With the game tied at two and two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, Ruhlman singled hard to left-center field and Seton Hall walked-off with the victory. In the series finale, Ruhlman went 3-for-5 with a run scored to again lead the Pirates in hits. Ruhlman is now batting a team-best .441 for the season.
Villanova's Connor Jones was named BIG EAST Player of the Week. Those joining Ruhlman on the honor roll include: Xavier's Vinny Nittoli, Villanova's Hunter Schryver, St. John's Robert Wayman and Georgetown's Nick Collins.
Seton Hall will return to action on Wednesday, March 19 when it hosts in-state rival Saint Peter's at Owen T. Carroll Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
