NEW YORK, N.Y. - Senior Josh Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J.) was named BIG EAST Baseball Pitcher of the Week on Monday. Teammate D.J. Ruhlman (Belle Mead, N.J.) was added to the conference's Weekly Honor Roll.
In a dominating season, Prevost may have turned in his most impressive outing on Friday vs. Villanova. The 6-foot-8 right-hander threw his fourth complete game of the season and his second shutout. Prevost scattered just two hits, struck out a career-high 13 batters and didn't issue a walk. The Pirates' ace lowered his ERA to a BIG EAST-leading 1.48 and improved to 9-1 on the season with the victory.
It's the fifth time this season that Prevost has been named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week. He currently leads the conference in wins, earned run average, opponent batting average, innings pitched and strikeouts.
Ruhlman batted a team-best .471 last week. He hit safely in all five games and recorded an RBI in three of them. On Friday vs. Villanova, Ruhlman went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, a double, an RBI and a hit-by-pitch. On Saturday, he went 2-for-5 with two runs scored, a triple, a walk, an RBI and a stolen base. It's the third time this season that Ruhlman has earned Honor Roll recognition.
Creighton's Reagan Fowler was named Player of the Week. Those joining Ruhlman on the Honor Roll include: Creighton's Matt Warren, Georgetown's Steve Anderson and both Zach Lauricella and Joe Kuzia of St. John's.
Seton Hall will return to the diamond on Wednesday, April 30 when it travels to Saint Peter's for a mid-week contest. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
