Seton Hall Falls to Creighton in Three Sets

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Freshman Sophia Coffey (Sierra Madre, Calif.) registered her second straight double-double, but it wasn't enough as the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell in three sets to Creighton, 3-0 (22-25, 18-25, 20-25), on Saturday.
A Creighton ball handling error gave Seton Hall a 17-11 lead in set one. The Bluejays responded however, with a 10-1 run to take a 21-18 advantage. Creighton went on to win set one, 25-22, to take a 1-0 match lead. Seton Hall fell despite out-hitting Creighton in set one, .237 to .200.
In set two, the Bluejays led from the start. Creighton scored four of the first five points before stretching its lead to as many as seven points at 13-6. From there, the Pirates couldn't draw closer than four points for the remainder of the set, eventually falling, 25-18. Creighton recorded an impressive attack percentage of .424 in two. They had 16 kills with only two attack errors.
Creighton had a 9-7 lead in set three, but the Pirates stormed back, with an 8-2 run to take a 15-11 advantage on an ace by Tessa Fournier (Redondo Beach, Calif.). The Bluejays responded with seven straight points to jump ahead 18-15, and never trailed again, in route to a 25-20 set three victory to win the match in three sets.
Notes & Numbers:
- Coffey finished with a team-high 20 assists to go with 10 digs for her team-leading ninth double-double of the season.
- Fournier finished with a match-high 19 digs and moved past former Pirate Jessica Pompey for third on Seton Hall's career digs list.
- Junior Danielle Schroeder (Chicago, Ill.) led the Pirates with nine kills.
- Seton Hall falls to 5-7 in three-set matches.
- Seton Hall falls to 2-5 all-time against Creighton.
