SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Senior Amanda Hansen (Pewaukee, Wis.) recorded 12 kills in a strong Senior Night effort as the Seton Hall women's volleyball team swept Providence, 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-22), on Saturday to complete the 2015 season.
Hansen also had a team-best .391 attack percentage, six digs and two aces to complete her collegiate career. Sara Connell (Dousman, Wis.) and Kacey Richards (Macedon, N.Y.) also played all three sets and saw their Pirate careers come to an end in winning style.
Seton Hall (14-16, 8-10) charged out of the gate, scoring five of the first six points of the first set. After the Friars cut the lead to 6-4, the Pirates went on a 9-1 run, capped by a Hansen kill to take a commanding 15-5 advantage and prompt a Providence timeout. From there, PC never got closer than five points as Seton Hall cruised to a 25-18 victory.
Set two started very similarly to set one as Seton Hall, aided by back-to-back service aces by Hansen, scored the first five points. The Pirates led for most of the set, but Providence methodically chipped away and eventually used a 7-2 run to take a 20-19 advantage. Trailing 21-20, The Hall scored four straight points to gain set point, 24-21. Three points later, a kill by Danielle Schroeder (Chicago, Ill.) gave the Pirates a 25-23 set two win.
After a close start, Seton Hall finally started to pull away from Providence mid-way through set three. A Friar attack error gave the Pirates a 15-10 lead. Providence cut the lead to just two points late, 24-22, but Abby Thelen (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.) ended the match with a kill.
Seton Hall (13-16, 7-10) dominated the Red Storm in set one, winning 25-15, but St. John's was equally as impressive in set two, tying the match with a 25-17 victory.
