Seton Hall (11-15, 5-9) jumped out to a strong start against Xavier in set one. A kill by Cherise Hennigan (Corona, Calif.) gave The Hall a 9-6 lead. Xavier responded by winning five of the next six points to take an 11-10 advantage. Clinging to a slim 16-15 lead, the Musketeers ended the set with a 9-2 run to win, 25-17.
In set two, the Pirates scored three of the first four points, but Xavier rebounded with six straight points to take an early 7-3 lead, and never looked back. With four straight points mid-set, the Musketeers took their largest lead of the set, 16-8. Seton Hall never got closer than five points the rest of the set and fell, 18.
The Pirates saved their best effort for set three, but ultimately the result was the same. The Hall scored the set's first four points and grabbed an early 7-1 lead on a bad set by Xavier's McKena Estes. Trailing, 12-9, Xavier scored four straight points to take a 13-12 advantage and prompt a Seton Hall timeout. Seton Hall wrestled the lead back, 15-14, with a block by Sophia Coffey (Sierra Madre, Calif.) and Amanda Hansen (Pewaukee, Wis.), but it was short-lived. The Musketeers scored five straight points to take a 19-15 advantage, and never trailed again in route to a 25-22 set three victory.
