South Orange, N.J. - The Pirate Blue Athletic Fund held its annual Pirate Blue Golf Outing at Navesink Country Club in Middletown, N.J. on Monday. The outing is a fundraising vehicle for Pirate Blue to generate support for Seton Hall's 14 athletic programs and its student-athletes. This year's event received overwhelming support as the golf portion of the day was sold out and the department received many generous sponsorships.
The best-ball format round of golf was followed by a cocktail reception and dinner. Associate Athletic Director Bryan Felt welcomed all of the attendees and thanked them for their contributions to Pirate Blue. Seton Hall Vice President and Director of Athletics & Recreational Services Patrick Lyons also thanked all of the sponsors and Pirate fans for their continued support. He took the opportunity to update patrons on the all the facility upgrades going on in Athletics as well. Head men's basketball coach, Kevin Willard, was also in attendance to preview the upcoming season.
"The Pirate Blue Golf Outing is always an exciting day for the department and for me, personally, as it serves as the launch of what will be another fantastic year of Pirate Blue events," Lyons said. "Our vision is always pointed towards the needs of our student-athletes, and we are always thankful for the tremendous support that this outing, as well as all of our Pirate Blue events, generates because it directly benefits them. We had a record number of golfers participate and many more joined us for a wonderful evening afterwards, and I was happy to have the opportunity to share all of our exciting developments and accomplishments with our dedicated supporters before we embark on another exciting year."
The O'Brien Family foursome were the day's top golfers. This foursome won the opportunity to represent Seton Hall in the Acura College Alumni Team Championship at Pinehurst Resort October 29 - November 1 2015, receiving two complementary rounds of golf along with four days of deluxe accommodations at the event.
