LOUISVILLE, KY. - Freshman Sophia Coffey (Sierra Madre, Calif.) finished one dig shy of a double-double, but it wasn't enough as the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell to Ohio, 3-0 (20-25, 24-26, 19-25), in its first match of the 2015 Active Ankle Challenge on Friday.
Coffey finished with 29 assists, nine digs and four kills in a strong all-around showing.
Seton Hall (4-3) had trouble with a strong defensive Ohio front line. The Bobcats combined for 13 team blocks, compared to just six for The Hall. As a result, the Pirates recorded only a .127 attack percentage for the contest.
Turning Point:
In set two, Seton Hall scored eight straight points to take a 19-16 advantage, and appeared poised to tie the match at one set apiece. But Ohio rebounded and scored five of the final six points of the set to edge The Hall, 26-24, and take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
Numbers & Notes:
- Cherise Hennigan (Corona, Calif.) led Seton Hall with 10 kills. It's the fifth time in seven matches this season that she's reached double-figures in kills.
- Junior Tessa Fournier (Redondo Beach, Calif.) recorded a match-high 15 kills.
- Coffey is still seeking her first collegiate double-double. She has come just one dig short on four separate occasions already this season.
- Freshman Abby Thelen (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.) had four kills and a .500 attack percentage. It's the fourth time this season she has recorded an attack percentage of better than .450.
Next Up:
Seton Hall will continue play at the 2015 Active Ankle Challenge on Saturday with a pair of matches. The Pirates will face host Louisville at 10:00 a.m., followed by Utah at 5:30 p.m.
