NEW YORK, N.Y. – Seton Hall women's volleyball sophomore Abby Thelen (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.) was named BIG EAST Player of the Week on Monday.
Â
It's the second straight week that Thelen has been recognized by the BIG EAST and the third time this season. The prior two times, she was named to the Weekly Honor Roll.
Â
Thelen is coming off the best single week of her young career. The outside hitter matched her career-high with 20 kills to go with eight digs and three blocks in Friday's four-set loss at Xavier. She followed that strong performance with a career-high 21 kills, in only three sets, in a victory at Butler on Saturday. Her 21 kills are the most recorded by any BIG EAST player in a conference three-set match this season. They're also the most by a Pirate in a three-set match since Nov. 5, 2003. Thelen led the Pirates with 5.86 kills per set and 6.29 points per set last weekend.
Â
Villanova's Emma Decker earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors. Members of the Weekly Honor Roll include: Butler's Anna Logan, Creighton's Jaali Winters, Marquette's Meghan Niemann, Villanova's Claire Crutchfield and Xavier's Abbey Bessler.
Â
Thelen and the rest of the Pirates will return to action on Friday, October 28 when they host BIG EAST defending champion Creighton at Walsh Gym. Match time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
