Fouse Paces Pirates in First Round at Pirate Invite

BEDMINSTER, N.J. – Junior Macky Fouse (Aliquippa, Pa.) shot an 11-over-par, 83, to lead the Seton Hall women's golf team to a third place standing after round one of the 2016 Pirate Invitational on Friday.

Scores across the field were elevated on Friday as Trump National experienced unseasonably low temperatures and wind gusts of as much as 40 mph.

Fouse was the bright spot for the Pirates through their first 18 holes. She is tied for sixth place among 77 individual golfers. Fouse trails the individual leader, South Dakota State's Megan Mingo, by five strokes entering Saturday's final round.

Collectively, Seton Hall shot a 53-over-par, 341, and ranks third among the field of 14 teams. The Pirates trail the team leader, South Dakota State, by 15 strokes. Lamar University is in second place only five strokes ahead of the Pirates. The Hall's lone BIG EAST competition in the field, Creighton, is currently in fifth place, eight strokes behind the Pirates.

Junior Cassie Pantelas (Canton, Ohio) is two strokes behind Fouse with a 13-over-par, 85. She is currently tied for ninth place overall.

Freshmen Sammie Staudt (Coatesville, Pa.) and Maddie Sager (Phoenixville, Pa.) are separated by just a stroke and are only one and two strokes respectively behind Pantelas. Staudt fired a 14-over-par, 86, while Sager had a 15-over-par, 87.

Lizzie Win (Sylvania, Ohio) rounded out the Pirates' scoring with an 18-over-par, 90.

Sophomore Jamie Greene (Troy, Mich.) and Gianna Tomeo (Bradenton, Fla.) are competing as individuals. Greene is 20-over-par with a first round, 92, while Tomeo is 24-over-par with a 96.

The Course:
Trump's "New Course," is a par-72, 5,802-yard gem designed and built by Tom Fazio, who has worked closely with Donald Trump as his in-house golf course designer and builder for almost a decade.  The New Course literally frames the Old Course, transforming every inch of available land into a handcrafted masterpiece. With a mix of wooded and open spaces and even more elevation changes, The New Course is distinctly different and boasts old school characteristics such as smaller greens and bunkers.
The Field:
In addition to Seton Hall, the field is comprised of 13 other teams including: University of Albany, Central Connecticut State University, Creighton University, Fairleigh Dickinson University, University of Hartford, Hofstra University, Illinois State University, Lamar University, Lehigh University, Long Island University - Brooklyn, Monmouth University, University of Nebraska-Omaha and South Dakota State University.

Tee Times:
The field will play one round on both Friday and Saturday, with competition beginning with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. both days. Seton Hall will be paired with golfers from South Dakota State and Lamar in round two.Â
