Pirates Give Back With Thanksgiving Baskets

South Orange, N.J. - For a fourth consecutive year, Seton Hall student-athletes have taken the time to make an impact on those less fortunate during the Thanksgiving holiday season. All 14 varsity programs donated a Thanksgiving basket that will go to a specific family through the Pierre Toussaint Food Pantry in Newark in what has become a signature H.A.L.L. Program philanthropic initiative. The baskets included food that is associated with a traditional Thanksgiving dinner as well as an item unique to each team's sport. A basket was also donated by Seton Hall Athletics corporate partner Ashley Marketplace.
After collecting all the baskets on Monday, seven student-athletes visited the food pantry on Tuesday to make the delivery, including Alex Chalk (Men's Golf), Macky Fouse (Women's Golf), Sarah Kenneweg (Volleyball), Alex McAuley (Men's Golf), Siobhan McGovern (Women's Soccer), Sarah Schweinberg (Women's Soccer) and Casey Young (Women's Swimming & Diving). Though for privacy reasons, the student-athletes were not able to meet the families who will be receiving the baskets, they were able to meet Sister Linda Klaiss, SSJ Pastoral Associate for the adjoining St. Mary's Church, who helps organize the donations.
Community enrichment is one of the five components of The H.A.L.L. Program, whose mission is to over the course of the student-athletes' time at Seton Hall University, be the catalyst that transforms high school graduates into student-athlete leaders, and then leaders in the professional world. In keeping in line with Seton Hall University's Division of Volunteer Efforts' (DOVE) vision of serving the community, the university, and the student, Seton Hall Athletics and SAAC sponsor many community service events in an effort to support and build a strong relationship with the local neighboring communities. The H.A.L.L. Program breaks down community enrichment into two parts, supporting charities and community interaction. By interacting in the community, the student-athletes are able to build strong relationships with the neighboring communities.
