PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Seton Hall tennis team earned its second BIG EAST victory of the season Sunday, sweeping singles competition to come away with a 6-1 win at Providence.
The Hall (8-9, 2-4 BIG EAST) registered six straight-set singles wins to cruise past the Friars (7-9, 0-3 BIG EAST) and record its eighth win of the spring.
Sophomore Luize Strike (Riga, Latvia) headlined the effort with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Alana Prinos at No. 1. Strike has now won 10 matches as an individual in 2016, two of which have come against conference opponents.
Senior Hannah Liljekvist (Djursholm, Sweden) ran her win total to 11 with a 6-4, 6-1 result against Nicole Cyterski at No. 2. All but one of the two-time All-BIG EAST honoree's singles wins this spring have come in straight sets.
Freshman Anna Fajnorova (Bratislava, Slovakia) bested Amanda Pitocco in third singles action (6-1, 7-5). The newcomer has now prevailed in three of her last five singles appearances and has posted a trio of wins over BIG EAST opposition.
Senior Julia Keenan (Greenland, N.H.) completed the weekend sweep with a 6-4, 6-1 win against Risa Takenaka at No. 4. Keenan posted one of two victories for the Pirates against No. 61 DePaul the day before and has now won 11 matches this season.
Fellow senior Isabell Klingert (Oberbalbach, Germany) blanked Brooke Burnside in the first set of their fifth singles matchup before claiming the second, 6-3, earning her eighth victory of the spring.
Sophomore Katie Kim (Honolulu, Hawaii) also finished the weekend unbeaten after dropping only two games in a 6-0, 6-2 win over Hannah Zangari at No. 6. Kim has strung together three victories in the last four outings and has contributed three wins in BIG EAST play.
Providence got on the board with the doubles point but the all-rookie tandem of Fajnorova and Thandy Kangwa (Fort Myers, Fla.) teamed to get past Cyterski and Takenaka, 6-4, at No. 3.
The Hall will wrap up the regular season this weekend with another pair of conference matches in Cincinnati. The Pirates will take on Butler on Saturday, April 23 (3:00 p.m.) before squaring off with Xavier (9:00 a.m.) in the finale.
