PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Senior Julia Keenan (Greenland, N.H.) and sophomore Katie Kim (Honolulu, Hawaii) delivered standout performances against No. 61 DePaul Saturday but the Seton Hall tennis team fell just short of scoring the upset, dropping a 5-2 decision on a neutral court in Providence.
The Hall (7-9, 1-4 BIG EAST) notched two points behind singles victories from Keenan and Kim and nearly came away with the doubles point after the two combined for a second doubles win as well.
The nationally-ranked Blue Demons (11-7, 5-0 BIG EAST) had only dropped more than one point a single time in four previous conference matches entering the day.
Keenan got back in the win column by posting a comeback win over Zaina Sufi at No. 4, rallying to take the final two sets, 6-4, 12-10, after being edged in the first. The senior now owns 10 individual victories this spring and has put a point on the scoreboard in each of the team's two matches against ranked opponents after triumphing over Nicole Dzenga of No. 56 USF.
Kim won for the second time against a league foe and the second time in the last three matches overall, downing Milica Tesic in straight sets at No. 6 (6-4, 6-3).
The two also paired to earn a 6-2 win over Sufi and Patricia Lancranjan at No. 2 doubles for their fourth win in BIG EAST play.
The Pirates will get another chance pick up their first conference victory of the season when they take on the Friars on Sunday. Start-time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
