CALLAWASSIE ISLAND, S.C. - Junior Lloyd Jefferson Go (Guadalupe Cebu City, Philippines) became the third BIG EAST individual champion in Seton Hall history, using a 3-over-par, 75, in Tuesday's final round to win the tournament by three strokes.
Go joins Pirate Hall of Famers Eugene Smith (2000) and Mike Costigan (1996) as winners of the conference's highest individual crown. For the three-round event, he shot a 6-under-par, 70-65-75-210, finishing three strokes head of Georgetown's Sam Madison.
Go's historic tournament was fueled by a record-breaking second round. The junior fired a Callawassie Island course-record, 7-under-par, 65, that began on Monday and ended on Tuesday after lightning suspended play. Additionally, Go's 7-under-par, 65, is the lowest single-round ever shot for a Seton Hall golfer at the BIG EAST Championship, and the second-lowest for a golfer from any school in the history of the conference tournament. Marquette's Matt Hasse shot the record, a 64, in the final round of the 2009 event.
The tournament victory is the second of the year for Go, and gives him an automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals to be held, May 16-18, in any one of six sites.
Collectively, Seton Hall shot a 14-over-par, 302, in Tuesday's final round to tie with Butler for sixth place in the final team standings. For the three-round event, the Pirate shot a 37-over-par, 305-294-302-901. Georgetown dominated the BIG EAST field, winning the team championship by 27 strokes over second place Xavier. DePaul finished third, just five strokes ahead of The Hall.
Freshman Gen Nagai (Mandaue Cebu City, Philippines) had a strong finish to his first BIG EAST Championship. He tallied three birdies, including one on the 18th hole to finish his final round with a 1-over-par, 73. For the tournament, Nagai tied for 14th place with a 9-over-par, 76-76-73-225.
Ryan Snouffer (Sparta, N.J.) recorded three bogeys in his first six holes during Tuesday's final round, but bounced back to finish with 12 consecutive pars. Snouffer tallies a 3-over-par, 75, in his final collegiate round. For the three-day event, he tied for 27th place with a 15-over-par, 80-76-75-231.
Freshman Chris Yeom (Flushing, N.Y.) was just 2-over on the front nine, but struggled down the stretch on Tuesday, finishing with a 7-over-par, 79. Yeom recorded a 19-over-par, 79-77-79-235, in his first BIG EAST Championship.
Junior Kevin O'Brien (Wexford, Pa.) was brilliant on the front nine, shooting 1-under par on the strength of three birdies, but an "8" on the par-4 10th hole marred an otherwise great start. O'Brien went on to shoot an 8-over-par, 80, in the third round. For the tournament, he finished with a 26-over-par, 85-77-80-242.
For Go, this weekend's performance is simply another significant accolade in what has become a historic collegiate career. His three-round score of 210 is tied for the lowest par-72 score in Pirate history, a mark he matched at the Hartford Hawks Invitational earlier this year. It is also his eighth sub-par tournament, which is second all-time at Seton Hall, just one behind Eugene Smith. With two more sub-par rounds, Go has 26 for his career, which is a Pirate record.

The Course:
The club features three nine-hole courses. The competition will play the first nine holes on the Dogwood Course and the second nine on the Magnolia Course. Designing Callawassie Island's award-winning championship 27-hole course, Tom Fazio took advantage of the island's natural beauty to create a juxtaposition of visual drama and superb playability. Magnificent live oaks and magnolias, as well as freshwater ponds and the surrounding saltwater marsh, come into play on most holes. Inspiring vistas and abundant wildlife make nature part of the golf experience.
The Field:
For the BIG EAST Championship, the field was limited to only the nine men's golf teams of the conference. This includes: Butler, Creighton, DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Seton Hall, St. John's, Villanova and Xavier.
