Seton Hall women's golfers have enjoyed individual success this summer.
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Seton Hall women's golf team has less than a month before it begins the 2016 falls season, and it's coming off a strong development summer.
Â
Rising junior and new team captain, Cassie Pantelas (Canton, Ohio), fired a 77-79-156 to qualify for the second flight of the Women's Western Am in Dayton, Ohio. She finished as the runner up in that flight, losing in the 18th hole of the championship match. Pantelas also fired a 73 in the Ohio State Women's Am, and made it to the quarterfinals of match play.
Â
Pantelas' classmate, Macky Fouse (Aliquippa, Pa.), may have had the strong summer of anyone on the team. She won the WGAWP Championship at South Hills Country Club, shooting a 75 to qualify for the championship flight, and then winning four matches to best the other 53 players in the field.Â
Â
Rising sophomores Jamie Greene (Troy, Mich.) and Gianna Tomeo (Bradenton, Fla.), also used this summer to hone their games. Greene finished 11th at the Midwest Collegiate Am Series hosted at Forest Akers West. Tomeo worked hard this summer to improve her swing, among other aspects, and continues to see significant improvement.
Â
Seton Hall's trio of newcomers have been very active in their final summer before beginning their collegiate careers. Maddie Sager (Phoenixville, Pa.) won the Philly Junior Tour Collegiate Series at Makefield Highlands Country Club, shooting a 78-69-157. She also fired a 77 in the USGA Women's Am Qualifier. Sammie Staudt (Coatesville, Pa.) tied for first at the U.S. Women's Am Four Ball Sectional Qualifier with a 72. She also finished second at the Inter-City Tournament at Commonwealth National Golf Club with a 78-73-151. Lizzie Win (Sylvania, Ohio) qualified for the USGA Junior Girls Am, shooting a 75. She also notched top-3 finishes in two separate tournaments of the Midwest Collegiate Series.
Â
The Pirates will open the 2016 fall season with the first two of three rounds of golf at the William & Mary Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 11 in Williamsburg, Va.
