Pirates Suffer Defeat at No. 1 Villanova
1/16/2017 9:46:00 PM | Men's Basketball
Villanova, Pa. - The Seton Hall men's basketball team concluded its three-game road trip with a 76-46 loss at No. 1 ranked Villanova Monday at The Pavilion. Junior Desi Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y.) led the Pirates with 15 points.
Seton Hall (12-6, 2-4 BIG EAST) concludes its road trip after playing three games in a span of six days with a third straight loss. Villanova (18-1, 6-1 BIG EAST), which reclaimed its No. 1 ranking today, has now won 47 consecutive games at The Pavilion.
Kris Jenkins had 16 points for the Wildcats to lead all scorers.
Turning Point
Villanova's defense proved tough on the Pirates, who had a 5-4 lead before the Wildcats went on a 21-2 run to take an 18-point lead. Seton Hall was just 1-for-9 from the field with four turnovers during the Nova run, which spanned 7:29.
The Pirates fought back by holding Villanova to just one field goal in the final 7:27 of the half, and Rodriguez nailed a pair of three-pointers to get within 13, 36-23.
The top-ranked team in the country proved too difficult. Villanova opened the second half on a 17-3 run to put the game away.
Inside the Numbers
- Seton Hall was held to a season low for shooting percentage and field goals made (16-for-55, 29.1 percent) as well as points scored. Villanova shot 47.4 percent overall and 46.2 percent (12—for-26) from three-point range.
- Rodriguez led the team in scoring for a fourth straight game with his 15 points. He is averaging 21.0 points over the last six games, all conference games.
- Junior Angel Delgado (Bajos De Haina, Dominican Republic) was limited to eight points and six rebounds, snapping a streak of 11 consecutive double-doubles that stands as a school-best since at least 2000.
- Junior Khadeen Carrington (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was held to six points, snapping a streak of 17 consecutive games scoring in double figures to start the season.
