Matson Shines in Spring Season Opener at NJIT

NEWARK, N.J. – Freshman Michal Matson (St. Albans, New Zealand) recorded a singles and doubles victory at the NJIT Invitational on Saturday, as the Seton Hall women's tennis team opened its spring season in its first competition since late October.
Along with freshman Melody Taal (Ede, Netherlands), Matson defeated Ines Vujkovac and Natalija Tasovac of NJIT, 6-3, in doubles play to open competition for the Pirates. She later recorded a 6-1, 4-6, (10-7) singles victory over Nathalie Habegger of NJIT.
Sophomore Thandy Kangwa (Fort Myers, Fla.) picked up a 6-3, 6-2 victory over NJIT's Alba Rosas, and junior Katie Kim (Honolulu, Hawaii) cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win over Tasovac.
Looking ahead, the Pirates travel to Princeton to take on the Tigers next Saturday, Jan. 28 at 10 a.m.
