October 2017
The weather isn't really sure if it's still summer or if it's fall, but I can tell you that it's really starting to feel like fall here at Seton Hall Athletics. Our soccer, volleyball and cross country teams are in full swing; our swimming & diving teams are opening their season tomorrow at home; and we're just five weeks away from tipping off in basketball.
Â
It's an exciting time to be a Pirate; we hope you'll enjoy the ride as our programs aim for great success.
Â
Join us for the Beefsteak Dinner and University Weekend
Â

Â
We are just two weeks away from our ninth annual Beefsteak Tip-Off Dinner, and the night that we hold this exciting event, it really starts to feel like basketball season.
Â
The evening will include a cocktail hour with the men's and women's basketball teams, a silent auction, an introduction of both teams with a preview from Coaches Bozzella and Willard, and, of course, a fantastic dinner!
Â
We are approaching a sell out of the event, but there's still time to reserve your spot at one of the remaining tables. Register for the Beefsteak today online or call the Pirate Blue office at (973) 275-6447.
Â
In addition, two days after the Beefsteak Dinner, Pirates fans will have the opportunity to watch both our men's and women's basketball teams in action with the blue & white scrimmage at Walsh Gym. The event is part of University Weekend, which is a great opportunity to come back and reconnect with campus. The action will get underway at noon on Saturday, October 21, and afterwards both teams will sign autographs. Hope you can make it!

Good Luck to Cross Country at the BIG EAST Championship
Â

Â
The first BIG EAST Championship our department will compete for this year takes place later this month when our cross country teams head to Wisconsin to vie for the conference title. Our student-athletes are very hungry to win this year as evidenced by their outstanding efforts so far this year.
Â
The men's team had back-to-back victories over the last two weekends, and have been paced by senior Jake Simon, who has won two meets, and junior Jarod Moser, who won last weekend's meet at Maryland Eastern Shore.
Â
The women's team has fared even better, winning three consecutive meets (at Stony Brook, NYIT and Maryland Eastern Shore), and junior Christiana Rutkowski has been at the front; in four meets this year, she's won three times and finished second once.
Â
Be sure to follow the teams on Saturday, October 28 at the BIG EAST Championship, which will be streamed live on the BIG EAST Digital Network via FOX Sports GO.

Enjoy Our 2016-17 Annual Report
Â

Â
Our 2016-17 Seton Hall Athletics Annual Report has finished production, and you can now view the book online. Printed versions will make their way to the mailboxes in the coming weeks.
Â
We are very, very proud of the accomplishments our student-athletes achieved this past year. We are especially proud that we have once again broken our record for student-athlete grade-point average, and that Pirate Blue Nation has helped us set new fundraising records.
Â
As you'll read in our Annual Report letter, we are not going to rest on those laurels. We are more determined than ever to continue our excellence on and off the field while doing what we can to enhance the student-athlete experience. That means we will continue to need your support, Pirate Blue Nation. We hope we can count on you to make a gift, attend a game, wish our student-athletes well and help spread the word about the great things Seton Hall is doing. Every bit helps our student-athletes reach their goals.

Â
Student-Athletes Chip in at Grow-A-Row
Â

Â
We talk a lot about making a difference for Seton Hall student-athletes; what you may not realize is how much of a difference Seton Hall student-athletes can make for others.
Â
Two weeks ago 38 Pirates rode out to Pittstown, New Jersey and spent the whole day harvesting tomatoes that are going to food banks across the state. This was part of America's Grow-A-Row, and the day has become a signature event in the H.A.L.L. Program calendar.
Â
In total, our student-athletes harvested over 7,000 pounds of tomatoes, which in turn creates over 28,000 servings. That's an incredible feat, and America's Grow-A-Row was extremely appreciative of Seton Hall's effort in helping feed the hungry. I know I'm proud that we have such wonderful student-athletes who take time out of their busy schedules to do the right thing and help those in need.
