NEW YORK - The Seton Hall men's basketball team continued its "Garden Magic" Thursday at the Under Armour Reunion, going on a late 20-9 run with daggers from sophomore Myles Powell (Trenton, N.J.) as the Pirates took down No. 22 Texas Tech, 89-79, at Madison Square Garden.
The Pirates are now 5-1 against Associated Press ranked opponents at Madison Square Garden since 2014 and they have now won eight of their last 16 games against AP ranked teams overall.Â
Senior Desi Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y.) continued his torrid scoring pace, dropping a game-high 24 points on the Red Raiders. He went 7-for-16 from the field and 7-for-7 from the free throw line. Powell poured in 17 of his 19 points in the second half; he was 6-for-8 from the field in the second half, 7-for-13 overall.
Senior Khadeen Carrington (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 16 points, and senior Angel Delgado (Bajos De Haina, Dominican Republic) had 12 points.
Seton Hall's 89 points scored blew away Texas Tech's previous points allowed total this season; the Red Raiders had not yet given up 70 points in their first six games.
Turning Point
After a very competitive first half with both teams shooting well, the Pirates went into the break trailing by three. At 16:40, Powell buried a three-pointer to put The Hall up one, 50-49. The Pirates did not relinquish the lead from there on out, though it continued to remain a tight contest.
It was a four-point game with under eight minutes remaining when the Pirates finally gained some separation as Carrington drove to the basket and fed Delgado for a layup and a six-point lead. Then Rodriguez found Powell on the  wing coming down for a triple and a nine-point lead, 73-64. The lead grew to 10, 75-65, when a gritty Carrington hit a jumper at 5:37.
The lead was back down to six, 79-73, with just over two minutes left when senior Ismael Sanogo (Newark, N.J.) found a wide-open Powell for three to send the Pirates fans into a frenzy. After a pair of missed Texas Tech threes, Powell then drove for a layup and then made a steal and a fast break layup on the ensuing possession to put The Hall on top 86-73 with 1:20 to play.

Inside the Numbers
- Seton Hall shot 50.8 percent from the field, going 30-for-59. The Pirates also shot a season-high 55 percent from three, making 11-of-20 attempts. Texas Tech shot 47.6 percent from the field, going 30-for-63, but it struggled from three-point range at 33.3 percent (6-for-18).
- The Pirates had 18 assists on their 30 field goals made.
- Seton Hall again out-rebounded its opponent, this time at 37-33. The Pirates used 15 offensive rebounds to generate 12 second chance points.
- Rodriguez led all scorers with 24 points, his third 20-point effort of the season and 14th of his career. Seton Hall is now 26-8 all-time when Rodriguez scores at least 15 points and 5-0 this season when he's the leading scorer.
- Powell scored 19 points and tied his career high with four assists.
- Carrington had 16 points and three assists.
- Delgado was 5-for-8 from the field and 2-for-2 from the line for his 12 points.
Seton Hall dropping 89 on that Texas Tech defense is probably the most impressive result of the evening for me. That Red Raiders group is long and defends like hell.
