Sager, Pirates Place Second With Strong Final Rounds

LAS VEGAS, NEV. – Freshman Maddie Sager (Phoenixville, Pa.) fired a 2-under-par, 70, in the final round of the 2017 Jackrabbit Invitational to lift the Seton Hall women's golf team to a second place team finish.

Sager's 70 is tied for the second-lowest par-72, single-round score in Seton Hall history. She used five birdies on Saturday to power her way to a second place finish among 40 individual golfers. For the tournament, Sager finished with a 5-over-par, 78-73-70-221. South Dakota State's Teresa Toscano won the individual title at 4-under-par. Sager's second place finish is her first career top-5.

Collectively, the Pirates turned in one of the program's all-time best rounds. The Hall fired a 3-over-par, 291, on Saturday to vault up the team leader board, past two other schools to finish second.  Their 291 ties the program record for the lowest par-72, single-round score. Seton Hall also registered a 291 in the third round of the William & Mary Invitational on Sept. 16, 2014.

For the three-round event, Seton Hall shot a 39-over-par, 314-298-291-903. The Pirates finished 13 strokes behind the team champion, South Dakota State.

Freshman Lizzie Win (Sylvania, Ohio) also recorded six birdies on Saturday to finish with a 1-under-par, 71, a career best. For the tournament, she tied for 14th with a 12-over-par, 78-79-71-228.

Junior Cassie Pantelas (Canton, Ohio) fired a 3-over-par, 75, on Saturday. For the three-round event, she finishes tied for seventh with a 9-over-par, 79-71-75-225. It's the eighth top-10 finish of her impressive career, which moves her into a tie for fourth place all-time at Seton Hall.

Freshman Sammie Staudt (Coatesville, Pa.) shot a final round 6-over-par, 78, on Saturday. She finished the tournament tied for 20th with a 17-over-par, 80-75-78-233.

Rounding out the Seton Hall team scoring was Macky Fouse (Aliquippa, Pa.), who turned in her best round on Saturday with a 3-over-par, 75. For the two-day event, she finished at 21-over-par with a 79-83-75-237.

Sophomores Jamie Greene (Troy, Mich.) and Gianna Tomeo (Bradenton, Fla.) competed as individuals. Tomeo finished at 29-over-par with an 83-83-79-245, while Greene had a 36-over-par, 79-84-89-252.

At Siena, the variety in the routing and pacing of holes will keep all levels of golfers entertained from opening tee shot to final tap-in. Siena features an ideal blend of doglegs and straightaway holes, a mix of slender and ample fairways, a balance between benign and rugged green complexes. Yet without exception, the course offers a host of shot-making options and plenty of grassy bail-out areas when the occasional shot gets away.
