Pirates Upended at Cal State Fullerton

Fullerton, Calif. – The Seton Hall women's tennis team fell 6-1 at Cal State Fullerton Sunday night in its first of a two-game west coast stand in Southern California.
The Pirates (4-4) evened the doubles point when freshmen Michal Matson (St. Albans, New Zealand) and Melody Taal (Ede, Netherlands) earned a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles. However, Fullerton (11-0) edged juniors Katie Kim (Honolulu, Hawaii) and Luize Strike (Riga, Latvia) in the second flight to clinch the point. The Titans have won the doubles point in all of their 11 matches this spring.
Strike fell to Alexis Valenzuela at No. 1 singles 7-5, 6-1. Sophomore Anna Fajnorova (Bratislava, Slovakia) had her seven-match singles win streak snapped with a 6-2, 6-1 setback to Camille De Leon at No. 2 singles.
Kim improved to 11-3 in singles this season with a hard-fought 6-3, 4-6, 11-9 win at the No. 6 spot.
Looking ahead, the Pirates remain in the Golden State and are in Los Angeles on Wednesday, March 8 to take on Utah State at 1 p.m.
