SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – New head coach Natalie Desjardins announced the 2017 Seton Hall women's golf fall schedule on Friday. The Pirates will participate in five tournaments this fall.
The Pirates will begin competition this fall at the William & Mary Invitational for a third straight year at Kingsmill Country Club in Williamsburg, Va., Sept. 10-11. It's the fourth time overall that Seton Hall has been a part of the field at Kingsmill. Last fall, the Pirates claimed their 10th team title in program history, winning the tournament by five strokes over BIG EAST rival Georgetown. The Hall fired a 37-over-par, 308-295-298-901. Cassie Pantelas (Canton, Ohio) placed second among 63 individual golfers at 7-over-par. Lizzie Win (Sylvania, Ohio) tied for third, just one stroke behind Pantelas, while Maddie Sager (Phoenixville, Pa.) placed 10th.
Two weeks later, Seton Hall will play in a new event for the seven-year old program, the Nittany Lion Invitational. The three-round tournament hosted by Penn State will take place on the University's Blue Course, Sept. 23-24. Last spring, Seton Hall's men's golfer Lloyd Jefferson Go tied the Blue Course record with a 64.
The following weekend, The Hall will travel to nearby Springdale Country Club for two rounds of golf at the Princeton Invitational. It will be the sixth time in eight years that the Pirates have participated in the event, but the first time since 2015. Seton Hall's best performance at Princeton came in 2014 when it finished fifth with a 63-over-par, 305-311-311-927.
Seton Hall will play three rounds at the Yale Women's Intercollegiate, Oct. 6-8. BIG EAST Championship aside, the Yale event is the only tournament that the Pirates have participated in all eight years of the program's existence. Seton Hall placed fourth in three straight years before finishing 14th in 2015 and 13th in 2016. Sager led the Pirates at 3-over-par, while Pantelas was 4-over-par last year.
Finally, the Pirates will wrap up the fall season with the Brown Bear Invitational, Oct. 15-16, at Ledgemont Country Club in Seekonk, Mass. The Hall has only played in a Brown tournament once, when it was in the spring season in 2013. The Pirates placed second with a 45-over-par, 318-303-621.
