
Four Pirates Fire Par or Better in Strong First Round

SOUTH KENT, CONN. – Four Pirates shot even-par or better in the first round of the 2017 Hartford Hawks Invitational and led the Seton Hall men's golf team to a fourth place team standing. Round two was suspended due to darkness and will be continued Tuesday morning.
Sophomore Alex McAuley (Douglas, Isle of Man) and junior Gen Nagai (Mandaue Cebu City, Philippines) both shot a 1-under-par, 71, and are tied for 12th place among 116 individual golfers. The strong opening effort is McAuley's first collegiate sub-par round.
Sophomore Alex Chalk (Castle Douglas, Scotland) and junior Chris Yeom (Flushing, N.Y.) are just one stroke behind their teammates after shooting an even-par, 72. They're tied for 22nd place overall after round one.
Collectively, the Pirates continued their recent dominance at Bull's Bridge Golf Club. The Pirates shot a 2-under-par, 286, in round one and trail third place Connecticut by just one stroke, and second place Towson by three strokes. UCF is the current team leader after a staggering 15-under-par, 273, in round one.
Freshman Gregor Tait (Martlesham Heath, England) rounded out the team scoring with an 8-over-par, 80.
Senior Linus Yip (Sydney, Australia), competing as an individual is tied with teammates Chalk and Yeom for 22nd overall after shooting an even-par, 72. Freshman Andres Acevedo (San Antonio, Texas), also an individual, fired a first round 4-over-par, 76.

In addition to Seton Hall and host Hartford, the large field includes 18 other schools: Army, Boston College, Bryant, Central Florida, Connecticut, Fairfield, Fairleigh Dickinson, Fordham, Hofstra, Holy Cross, LIU-Brooklyn, Rhode Island, Rider, Sacred Heart, St. Francis (Pa.), Towson and Weber State. BIG EAST foe St. John's is also a member of the field.

The field will continue the suspended second round starting at 8:00 a.m. A final 18 holes will be played immediately afterward.
