No. 21 Pirates Rally to Stun Butler at Hinkle
1/6/2018 6:24:00 PM | Men's Basketball
Where have we heard this before?
For the second straight year, the Seton Hall men's basketball team overcame a double-digit, second-half deficit to stun Butler, this time on the strength of 29 points from senior Khadeen Carrington (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and a career-high 28 points from senior Angel Delgado (Bajos De Haina, Dominican Republic) as the No. 21 Pirates toppled Butler, 90-87, Saturday afternoon.
Last year, Seton Hall (14-2, 3-0 BIG EAST) overcame a 10-point deficit with 7:03 to play in the game.
Delgado, who had 18 of his 28 points in the first half alone, also grabbed 15 rebounds and issued six assists. Carrington matched Delgado in assists and made a career-high seven three-pointers, including six in the second half.
In the superior BIG EAST Conference in which anyone can beat anyone, Seton Hall currently stands as the only remaining unbeaten team.

Turning Point
It was a close game throughout, but a Butler 19-8 run early in the second half put the Bulldogs on top 65-54 with 9:57 to play.
All of a sudden, Seton Hall's three-point and free throw shooting came alive. Delgado knocked down four consecutive free throws with a Butler miss in the middle to close within seven.Â
Then after one Kamar Baldwin free throw, senior Desi Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y.) found Carrington open for a three. On the in-bound play, Baldwin was whistled for a deadball foul, giving possession back to the Pirates. Delgado then fed Carrington for a bomb triple, to cut the deficit to just two, 66-64, with 8:09 to play.
That sequence got The Hall back into the game, and the two teams then traded blows for the next six minutes. Kelan Martin would score for Butler; Carrington and Rodriguez both hit threes; Delgado had a huge steal that led to a fast break dunk by freshman Myles Cale (Middletown, Del.).
It came down to Martin tying the game with free throws at 1:54. After a Pirates turnovers, The Hall got a stop on defense, and Carrington drove to the basket for a critical layup with 1:08 to play to put the Pirates up 84-82.
After getting another stop on defense, Rodriguez's three-point attempt was off the mark, and Delgado was there to clean up the glass. He handed off to sophomore Myles Powell (Trenton, N.J.), who made four free throws in the final 13 seconds to help ice the victory.
